She’s Watching

Let her see you cry, so she knows her tears are okay.

Let her see you stumble and fall, so she isn’t ashamed when she does the same.

Make sure she sees you dry your eyes and dust yourself off.

Stand tall and move forward. She’s watching it all.

Let her see your heart be broken when heartbreak comes your way.

Let her see that broken hearts do mend and hurting fades away.

Let her see you get it wrong and feel out of place.

Get angry. Get scared.

Let her see your face.

She’s watching. She’s learning.

Grace comes with a price.

Let her see you learning.

Let her see you survive.

Let her see you be stubborn.

Let her see you cave.

Let her see you always stand back up.

She’s learning to be brave.

~ A. Saam

* The most meaningful thing my daughter has ever said to me is, “You’re the bravest person I know.” Until that moment, I hadn’t realized that I was brave at all. This poem is dedicated to my Madz. You are my source of bravery. I love you, forever.
